What Is An Apostille?

An Apostille is a certificate of authenticity of an original public or legal document which is issued by the state secretary. It is distinguished by Hague Apostille member countries which are party to the treaty, including the United States of America.

Hague Apostille Members

Listed below are the 117 active members of the Hague Treaty Convention 12, thus enforced within the US.

Why do you need a New York Apostille for use in Tuvalu?

Since Tuvalu is an active member of the Hague Convention, any official document from the USA will only require an Apostille with a stamp from the Secretary of State. Apostilled documents can then be used for countries member to the Apostille Treaty. A diplomatic authentication of consular legalization will no longer be required if you are planning to relocate to Tuvalu.

Three steps in securing a New York Apostille for use in Tuvalu:

Step 1. Notarization:

You need your documents to get notarized first before getting them apostilled. A certified notary public should do this to ensure the validity of your document and help reduce the risk of fraud.

Step 2. County Clerk Authentication:

Authentication follows and must be done in the same county as the notary who performed your document notarization.

Step 3. Department of State Apostille:

The final step is to fill -up an application form with the appropriate documents attached. Your documents must have been authenticated by the county clerk. A fee and the Issuance of your Apostille by The New York State Department of State will complete the process.
