Do you need a certification for your school credentials? You must have been asked for Apostille NYC School Records. In many cases, when a foreign country’s authorities request a certified copy of your school records, they ask for a document that certifies that you have attended a college university and got the degree you claim to have. This article can guide you on how to do it, so continue reading to get the relevant information.

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille is a legal form that authenticates legal documents. When a legal record is for use abroad, it may be necessary to ascertain the notarization or certification. Foreign countries often require records to be established before the papers are accepted in the foreign jurisdiction. An Apostille certifies the signature and the position of the executing official of a document.

The Apostille is much like an international notary, with rules and regulations agreed upon in the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. The Apostille NYC school records are for document acceptance across international borders. The Apostille Treaty ensures that public documents issued in one signatory country will be recognized as valid in another signatory country.

The 1961 Hague Apostille Convention

The 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents established Apostille guidelines. Under the Hague Convention, signatory countries have agreed to recognize Apostilled public documents issued by other signatory countries.

Before the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, the authentication of public documents used to be a seemingly complicated process, requiring the collection of forms attached to the notarized document. The Hague Convention of 1961 provides for the much-simplified certification of public documents for use in countries that have joined the convention with an Apostille.

Documents destined for use in participating countries and territories should be certified by one of the officials in the jurisdiction where the document was executed. The official must have been designated competent to issue certifications by ‘Apostille’ (usually in the State Secretary of State or state notary administrator) provided by the 1961 Hague Convention.

Apostille NYC School Records

The United States has been part of the 1961 Apostille Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents since October 15, 1981. The US attempted to streamline the authentication process of public documents. The used to be a complicated process for NYC in authenticating documents has become simpler.

The New York Department of State issues Apostilles for various public documents, including school records. School records submitted to the New York Department of State for an Apostille or Certificate of Authentication must go through specific steps.

Here are the steps you should take to Apostille NYC School Records:

Step 1: Obtain your certified school records.

Get in touch with your educational institution’s Registrar and get a true certified copy of your school records. The Registrar certifies your documents by stating that they are authentic and correct.

Step 2. The school official’s signature has to be notarized.

A notary public must notarize the school official’s signatures on your school records. Your school can do this through their in-house public notary. If your school doesn’t have an in-house notary public, you may arrange for a mobile notary to come to your school and do the needed work to notarize your Apostille NYC school records.

Check if your document is properly notarized. Make sure that the notary public’s signature is original. The notary’s stamp must also clearly reflect the notary’s license number, the name of the county where the notary is qualified, and the license expiration date.

Step 3: Certify your school records with the County Clerk.

Take your notarized school records to the County Clerk’s office to have the signature of the notary public certified. You must note that this service is on a first-come, first serve basis. The County Clerk’s office is located at New York County Clerk, Notary Section, 60 Centre Street, Room 141B, Basement, New York, NY. Their office is open from 9 AM-5 PM, Monday through Friday.

The New York Department of State is open from Monday through Friday from 9 AM-3:30 PM. Their office address is below:
