About Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is one of the smallest countries in Western Europe with an estimated population of 39,200 in 2021. Situated between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein is mostly surrounded by slopes of mountains covered with evergreen forests and alpine flowers. The climate goes down to 5 °F during winter and goes up in the summer between 60 to 80 °F, perfect for growing grapes and corn which is peculiar for mountainous areas.
Liechtenstein is one of the richest countries globally in terms of GDP per capita with only a 1.5% unemployment rate. A country backed by strong financial networks, predominantly by private banks.
Did You Know?
Liechtenstein, as a small country, holds quite a handful of trivial facts. Here are some of the things that you may want to know:
- No airports! You have to land in Switzerland to get into Liechtenstein.
- No border control between Liechtenstein and Switzerland
- It also shares Swiss Francs and customs procedures with the said country.
- The largest producer of false teeth in the world.
- No foreign Embassies.
Places To Visit
Since Liechtenstein is a relatively small country of only 160 sq km, it will not take that much time to travel around. With breathtaking views and sceneries combined with a laidback metropolitan, it is definitely a wonderful country not only to visit but to also live in.
Here are a few popular tourist destinations:
Nendeln and Eschen
The modest towns of Nendeln and Eschen are the prime communities of the lowland area of Liechtenstein.
Nendeln, notable for its roots from a Roman villa and the Schädler Pottery, was established back in 1836 which is also the oldest craft workshop in the country. It is popular for its stoneware crockery and traditional tiled stoves. Meanwhile, in Eschen are the Pfrundhaus, this is a 14th-century structure showcasing local art, and the beautiful Holy Cross Chapel.
The Calculator and Typewriter Museum
The unique collection of calculators and typewriters accommodates more than 250 rare pieces, which includes a great deal of antiques — the oldest dates back to the late 1800s. One of the many highlights include the palm-sized Curta, known as the world’s smallest mechanical calculator; designed and manufactured in the country.
The Ruggeller Riet Nature Reserve
Located amid a 90-hectare of untouched nature in northeastern Liechtenstein, the Ruggeller Riet Nature Reserve is a magnificent scenery to experience the country’s rich flora and fauna. The reserve’s nature trails usher through an array of enticing vegetation and scenery, from meadows to moors, with striking rolling hills in the background.
